A
Lytell Geste -- by Catherine Boone (HL, gen, PG)
I've always enjoyed the chemistry on Highlander between Methos and Amanda, and this story
captures and expands upon that great buddy dynamic. It's also one of the best of the
peculiar Immortals in History genre in HL fic--not a genre that often works to my taste,
but this one works. Methos and Amanda as Robin and Marion... it shouldn't work, but
it does. And it's a rollicking good adventure and a ton of fun, too. And now
I'm going to go find some depressing fic to read until the urge to say "rollicking
good adventure" has completely left me.
Love is Blindness -- by
Glass Houses (TPM, Q/O, NC-17)
This is neither rollicking nor an adventure, but it is good, so if you want a complete
change of pace after 'A Lytell Geste,' here ya go. It's TPM, it's slash, and it's
one of those punch-in-the-gut fics I love to hate. 'Nuff said

D'oh, that's right, I have a recommendations page. Perhaps
I should put recommendations on it once in a while....
Fate's
Crossing -- by Jedi Kate
TPM gen--yes, it does exist. I was surprised, too. This is very nice
"fix-it" story in which Obi-Wan must choose between his master and his padawan,
abandoning either his heart or his duty. Yes, I'm sure it's gen. Although it's
a close call. Either way you look at it, this one's worth giving a try.
Action, adventure, angst--and a last chapter that really had me worried for a while.
The
House That Obi-Wan Built -- by Smitty
As long as I'm looking at TPMish gen... here's a story (the first in a series) that takes
a candid and tender look at the first fumbling steps in the relationship between Obi-Wan
and Anakin as they both try to cope with their new lives. Obi-Wan takes Anakin to
Malastare, and they both do their best to survive the conditions--and each other.
This is some vivid, funny writing, and best of all, there's more when you're done! Sofa, So Good and House of Cards
continue the tale.
Safety in Numbers --
by Elizabeth
What the hell, how 'bout some more gen, or even some het? This time X-Men, and my
new addiction, Wolverine/Rogue fic. There's some decent stuff out there, but this one is a
good bit above the rest of the pack. Tense, erotic and angsty, it isn't exactly
romance, but it's a lovely trip all the same. And when you're done with
that....
...you can check out:
Distinction-- by Molly
For something a little gentler in the W/R genre, try this short but charming Rogue
character piece. I'm a sucker for authors who get their characters down, and Molly's
Rogue and Logan make the buds of romance seem both right and real.

The
Mystery of the Closed Door--by Basingstoke
(SW, slash, O/A, PG)
I swore by all that was holy that I was never going to touch Obi-Wan/Anakin slash, not
with a 10-foot lightsaber. I mean, ew. And I'm a faithful, OTP kinda gal (for
the most part) who refuses to admit that Obi-Wan's Real One True Love is anything less
than hale and hearty. But Basingstoke changed my mind, and how! Although we haven't
seen these two characters onscreen together yet (not counting Vader), Bas captures
everything they could and should be as a master/apprentice team and potential
lovers. And she makes me like it. Great and realistic character development,
interesting plot, and a believable relationship--even if Obi/Ani makes you go 'ew!' give
this one a chance
Kickoff--by Merry Lynne (SN, pre-slash, D/C, PG)
You all know Merry's stuff, right? She's on every recommendation page from here
to...wherever these failed metaphors go when they die. But SN is a teensy fandom,
and so there's a chance that you may not know about this story, and that just can't be
permitted. The eternal question in SN fandom is how did Dan and Casey actually meet,
and how did their relationship develop against the backdrop Casey's
engagement/marriage? Merry answers these questions with her usual stylistic flair
and solid characterization that will make you laugh out loud and feel your heartstrings
tugging at the same time.

Dark Desires-- by
Mona Ramsey (TPM, slash, Q/O, PG-13)
This is the first TPM story I ever read, one of the first ever written (before the movie
even came out--slashers work fast), and the one that dragged me kicking and screaming into
TPM slashdom. Despite the title, it's a sweet, mildly angsty story with surprisingly
strong characterization considering when it was written. It's comfortfic for me--I
still have the battered old print-out of it I carried around all last summer.
Little Company -- by
Lanning Cook (TS, slash, J/B, NC-17)
WARNING: intricate plots, well-developed characters, strong dialogue and more than one
tear-jerker scene. "Little Company" is the sequel to "True Minds," which you don't
have to read first, but if you like good Sentinel fic, you probably ought to.
Moving
On -- by Lauren Adams (HL, M/A, M/K, M/f, NC-17)
This story actually requires serious warnings for rape and violence, but if you like
the darkly erotic, you may want to check it out. Lauren's Methos is no
boyscout in the Bronze or any other Age, and she doesn't hold back in describing just what
that means.

Home--
by DBKate&Kass (TPM, slash, Q/O, R)
One of the latest stories in their "Exiles" universe, which grows more vivid and
impressive with each story. You don't have to read the entire series to read
"Home" (though you'll want to). "Home" is a beautifully crafted
exploration of the nature of love, and it packs a hefty emotional punch.
Heartwarming and heartrending, it's canon the way Lucas should have done it, but never
could have.

A Better Game
-- by Kest (Sports Night, slash, D/C, PG)
Kest brilliantly manages what few Sports Night writers ever achieve--a mix of plot,
emotion, real sports, and a somewhat scarily plausible feel for the inside of Danny's
head. This story captures everything that makes Sports Night special--don't miss it.
